The last key concept is motivation, it can be an individual phenomenon – every person is unique every theory allows for uniqueness. The theories within motivation try to predict behaviour – the internal and external forces which influence a person’s choice of action (Mullins, 2005). Abraham Maslow developed the hierarchy of needs model in 1954. Using Maslows model we can identify the Leeds site is currently in the social needs stage due to the demotivated workforce and reduced performance. The workforce has no sense of belonging to the organisation due to the lack of knowledge of their roles and this is causing a low rate of friendships amongst each other. Consequently it is vital that the new manager creates a rewards system which he/she can praise his staff on a regular basis as this is likely to improve the workforce’s passion for the organisation thu s increase productivity levels. Finally, According to lock’s goal theory people’s goals or intensions can play a part in determining their overall behaviour, this can be achieved by setting the workforce regular goals from frequent meetings. This process would be very beneficial for the Leeds site because once the staff have been set specific goals to do within their roles, they are more likely to perform better. This will have a very positive impact on the organisation by improving overall performance of staff and also increase customer satisfaction, which will ultimately lead to more profits for the site. It is essential that the new manager has these three key skills. Once the right person is chosen the Premier leisure and fitness site in Leeds can look forward to a fresh and prosperous future. This is to ensure solidarity and order is maintained in preparation for the laws that need to be maintained in adulthood. Durkheim also believed that education provides certain skills that would allow them to contribute to the wider world at work. However Durkheims views on education are open to a number of criticisms. He assumes that the norms and values provided by the education are for those of society as a whole rather than those of a ruling class. Functionalism emphasises the importance of value consensus however they do not recognise that conflict can occur in society. They suggest that conflict is only temporary disturbances in the social system. Presidential Power And Rthe Modern Presidents; A Critical Review Presidential Leadership Many scholars and academics have claimed that Richard Neustadt's book Presidential Power and the Modern Presidents, a brilliant and insightful commentary on not only the workings of the office of the president but also the pitfalls any president can encounter as well as the way personality and leadership fit into the making of a president. In short, Neustadt almost gives us a model for what a president must be and what he must and must not do. He relives decisions and actions made by past presidents that have affected presidential leadership and power. It is easy to see why many attribute this book the status that it well deserves. It is easy to see why Kennedy reportedly kept a copy of the first edition of this book with him in the oval office. This book is a classic introspective study of the presidency that is unparalleled in quality. For the most part, Neustadt does not look at presidents individually. Rather he takes situations that relate to his arguments and discusses how different presidents or depending on the situation a certain president dealt with that situation. He begins with what he calls three cases of command that he falls back on continuously through the work. He uses Truman's tenuous relationship and eventual dismissal of MacArthur, the decision of Eisenhower to use troops to enforce integration of schools in Arkansas, and the seizure of the steel industry by Truman. He repeatedly refers to the first two of these but uses the latter very little to illustrate his points after initial discussion. The basic structure is very effective because it provides for a study of the presidency as an institution, not a study of presidents. Neustadt does not underemphasize the role that personality and style plays in term of each president. He uses it to support many of his assertions. He correctly points out that personality and style contributes to all aspects of how any man serves as president but it is not everything. Personality and style do not account for experience, intellect, and temperament. Neustadt does n excellent job of showing how all of these factors relate and combine to form a president and a presidential style. He shows how these factors influence presidential decision making as well as contribute to presidential inadequacies and pitfalls of administrations. Neustadt also discusses everything that he believes attributes to presidential power. In doing so, he is constantly referring back to the original three cases studied, commenting on them and introducing other relevant experiences. His topics range from the power to persuade, reputation, prestige, and personalities of men in office. In the course of this he reveals what he believes to be the most important traits of any president. He feels that presidents need not necessarily be a genius, but rather somewhat intelligent with outstanding temperament, which I take to mean personality, as well as the experience in government to understand the duties and effectively serve as president. Neustadt then examines subsequent presidents in situational terms. He begins with Kennedy and the final president he examines in Reagan. He examines Ford, Carter, and the one aspect of Reagan's presidency on transitional terms and speaks on the problems that presidential transitions can cause. He also uses the experiences of Kennedy with the Bay of Pigs as excellent background and primary information in this study. Neustadt concludes his examination of presidential leadership with what is without a doubt the best example of all of his main points wrapped together and effecting presidential decision making and leadership. Neustadt looks at the Iran Contra affair and the involvement of Reagan in the affair. The scandal and Reagan's involvement or lack thereof illustrates and gives life to all of Neustadt's assertions and arguments. It is almost as if the Iran Contra Affair is a case study in presidential leadership and power that illustrates and gives life to all of Neustadt's main points. It fits in with his arguments almost flawlessly. Overall, this book can almost be viewed almost as a how to book for the presidency. Sometimes mistakes happen due to being overwhelmed, making an oversight, or having a moment of carelessness. It happens to everyone, even the most conscientious employee. So when something happens and you feel like you’re sitting in the corner of shame, remember that you’re not the only one. Even the people who are angry with you have been there (or will be) at some point, so try not to take it too perso nally.The Aftermath of your GaffeAfter a mistake, it can feel like you’re stuck in a kind of purgatory. Am I going to get fired? Have I totally ruined my reputation? And everything, every little bobble or mistake, feels magnified. It’s important not to get stuck under this tidal wave of stress and worry. But if you’re already performing at a lower level because you’re unh appy or disinterested, that’s a major red flag.If the performance issue was due to you being overwhelmed by your jobTalk to your boss. ASAP. It’s time for a very frank discussion about your priorities, your tasks, and your role. If things don’t change and performance continues to slide, that will be on you, and it will make things even more uncomfortable. If this turns out to be the case, and you’re let go for cause, your career is not over. Remember before, when I mentioned that you have to work hard to prove yourself and move on? That’s doubly true if you’re fired- and you have to cope with that while also look ing for a new job. So it’s not an easy road, but also not impossible.If you lose your job because of performance issues, you still have options:1. Don’t put off your job search.It can be tempting to lay low for a while, but the longer you wait, you’re delaying the inevitable moment you get back out there. You also run the risk of (unintentionally) reinforcing the idea that you’re unhireable, the longer you stay out of the game. As with a big mistake, accept that it happened, think about how you can do better, and find ways to improve and make yourself a stronger candidate.2. Think hard about what you want to do.Is your field really a good fit for you, after how things ended at your last place? If it was just the company or the role that was the problem, that’s a pretty straightforward fix. But this is a chance to think about what you should really be doing next.3. Get your references in place.Given how things ended, you probably won’t want y our most recent boss to sing your praises (especially if you’re not sure what he/she will say), but you can still get former colleagues from other jobs, or people in your network to act as references.4. Spin it.You lost your job, and that’s going to come up when someone sees an end date on your resume, or asks why you left your last job. The important thing is to turn the narrative into a more positive one. â€Å"I left my last position because it wasn’t a good fit. I’m ready to move on to the next challenge.† It’s a little vague and not ideal, but it’s also not a brutally honest, â€Å"I got fired. Hire me please?† Keep in mind that the reasons you were let go might come up during a background or reference check, so it’s best not to flat-out lie about your reasons for leaving.While you’re looking for a new job, the old one might haunt you somewhat. The main pollutants that are of a concern in Mexico City are nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, particulate matter and tropospheric ozone (BellML et al. 2006). It is estimated that the transportation sector is responsible for about forty percent of the particulate matter emissions in Mexico City. Transportation however, is a vital sector in Mexico City traffic congestion in Mexico City forces people to take transportation methods to reach work, school, etc. Similarly, a large part of the population lives in poverty, which means they cannot afford a car. In addition, it has been reported that ozone causes the airway inflammation among young children playing outdoors. Nitrogen oxides increase the chance of respiratory infections as well as wheezing (Bernstein JA et al. 2004). Particulate matter is associated with infant mortality and also includes an increasing number of absences of students in schools as well as emergency room visits for respiratory problems including asthma (Bell ML et al. 2006). New York City, similar to Mexico, has an air pollution problem caused by motor vehicles. However, morbidity and asthma is higher in different communities around New York City South Bronx and Harlem. These communities for instance, have higher diesel exhaust le vels from bus depots, truck routes, and waste transfer stations (Patel et al. 2013). As a result, this diesel exhaust creates black carbon. The black carbon is linked to the increasing number of respiratory diseases as well as the hospital admissions among children and adolescence in Harlem and South Bronx (Patel et al. 2013). Similarly, Patel et al. also explain that short-term increases of particulate matter and nitrogen dioxide are associated with airway inflammation among adults and children. The number of people being affected by air pollution will continue to grow, if no regulations to stop air pollution are enforced. Mexico city suffers from a serious air pollution problem, which has led to many respiratory diseases. However, there are policies that exist which help control air pollution. An air pollution problem that they face is ozone released from transportation methods. One measure Mexico City has taken to reduce vehicle pollution includes a motor vehicle Maintenance and Inspection (IM) program. This program keeps track of vehicle emissions to make sure th at the advanced emission control systems are working properly in modern-day cars (Riveros HG et al. 2002). In addition, catalytic converter devices added to the exhaust of a motor vehicle consisting of a catalyst that transforms pollutant gases into less dangerous ones were introduced in 1995 to Mexico City. In 1995, vehicles were emitting 70 percent less hydrocarbon, 75 percent less carbon monoxide and 65 percent less nitrogen oxide (Riveros HG et al. 2002). Similarly, methyl tertiary-butyl ether was added to gasoline beginning in 1995, to refine combustion efficiency and applied boundaries on the aromatic aspect of fuels as well as on the sulfur content in fuel used in industries (Mckinley G et al. 2005). People are becoming sick, and a lot of money is being spent as a result of the pollution. Not only the people are suffering from this environmental problem, but the environment as well. Howard Zinn Essay

Howard Zinn was born on December 7 19922 in Brooklyn New York. Zinn was raised in a working-class family in Brooklyn, and flew bombing missions for the United States in World War 2, which experience he uses to shape his opposition to war. Howard Zinn is one of the most respected historians, the author of various books and plays, and a passionate activist for radical change. A clear statement of his nature is his autobiography You Can’t Be Neutral on a Moving Train. He is perhaps best known for A People’s History of the United Sates, which presents American history through the eyes of those outside of the political and economic establishment, like the Native Americans, slaves, women, blacks, etc. In his essay â€Å"Violence and Human Nature† Howard Zinn points that; even if humans are capable of violent behavior, it is social conditions that harness that cruelty. He warns us to steer clear of the widespread notion that humans are biologically predisposed to violen ce and warfare. Mr. Zinn starts off by using an arsenal of famous thinkers, pointing out their pessimistic views and believes on human behavior. Views based on no concrete evidence that we humans are born with this trait called violence. Zinn starts off using Machiavelli’s positive view in the â€Å"The Prince† that humans tend to be bad. Zinn add great minds such as Einstein and Freud and their correspondence to illustrate their own views on the subject, and their conclusions that humans are violent by nature. Other scholars are also thrown in to support this traditional view of human nature being evil. The writer goes on with the idea that scientific evidence doesn’t proves it, and that is the notion that humans are in nature prone to violence. Howard picks on some scientific fields to show as that there is no evidence of human instinct for the kind of aggressive hostility that characterizes war. He turns to sociobiology, where the Harvard professor E.O Wilson in his book â€Å"On Human nature† answers with a yes on the question â€Å"Are human beings innately aggressive?† and finds his evidence not in his field but as Freud did in History. Wilson goes on to describe that humans are born with such a trait as violence, that we own it to our genes. Zinn counter attacks this with the following, Stephen Jay Gould a colleague of Wilson and a expert in evolution categorically just replies when asked that there no evidence for  such a statement by Wilson. Zinn is starting to show us an interesting pattern, a blueprint that clearly show us that every explanation from those important people look to root their selves with evidence found only in History. If the nurse utilizes a deontological approach the decision is made based on the nurse’s duty and responsibility to uphold patient confidentiality. The nurse would then determine what to do in the situation by looking at all the alternatives. After determining a course of action the nurse must proceed with the action that is thought to be best. In the end the nurse should evaluate the outcomes of the decision for future professional development (Purtilo & Dougherty, 2010). A nurse faced with this type of situation may seek advice from the institution’s ethics committee in order to determine the appropriate course of action. An ethics committee may be composed of clinical personnel as well as non-clinical personnel. The committee most likely has and ethical consultant available as well to guide the decision making process. The role of an ethics committee in the clinical setting is to provide support and guidance to caregivers when they are faced with an ethical problem. John Locke and the Tacit Consent Theory - Essay Example John Locke’s Theory of Tacit Consent is actually necessary but should not be the only basis of the legitimacy of a government. According to John Locke, the so-called Tacit Consent Theory refers to the notion that â€Å"one can only become a full member of society by an act of express consent† (Tuckness), which may translate as â€Å"simply by walking along the highways of a country a person gives tact consent to the government and agree to obey it while living in its territory† (Tuckness). This is, in fact, a rather self-explanatory definition of tacit consent. The point of Locke then is that â€Å"a government can only be legitimate when its citizens have consented to it† (Greenwood). Tacit consent, therefore, becomes for Locke an implication or indication not only of consent but also of obligation. This means that the idea of being in a particular place implies two things – that one â€Å"voluntarily† or â€Å"tacitly† consents to be ing under the governance of the law of that place, and that one therefore is obliged to follow the law of that place. Furthermore, this obligation to the law is also tantamount to consenting to be subject to the sanctions that will result if the law is not followed. This idea – the Tacit Consent Theory, however, no matter how logical it may sound, lends itself to several flaws. One objection to Locke’s theory of tacit consent is that Locke cannot possibly expect political obligation from the citizens since, based on the theory of tacit consent, it is the citizens’ consent that precedes and determines the legitimacy of the government, and not the other way around. According to Locke, â€Å"a government can only be legitimate when its citizens have consented to it† (Greenwood). This means that unless the citizens consent to the dictates and laws of the government, this government may exist but will remain illegitimate. The citizens’ consent therefore is essential to determining the legitimacy of the government. If, therefore, the actions of the government – imposing laws and sanctions – are dependent upon this legitimacy, then these actions are all dependent upon the consent of the citizens. In simple terms, if the citizens do not consent to the legitimacy of the government – or if there is no public trust – then the government cannot therefore impose laws on the citizens as well as sanctions if they violate these laws. However, Locke would answer this objection using his idea of the â€Å"majority,† which is clearly stated in Sections 97 and 98 in Chapter VIII of his Second Treatise of Government. Although negatively stated by Locke in Section 97, his point is that â€Å"†¦every man [should] submit to the determination of the majority [or else he] would signify nothing and be no compact, if he be left free, and under no ties than he was in before in the state of nature† (Locke). M oreover, Section 98, although also negatively stated, claims that â€Å"if the consent of the majority shall not†¦be received as the act of the whole, [this] will necessarily keep many away from the pubic assembly† (Locke). If Locke therefore would argue with the first objection stated above, he would simply state, based on the provisions of Sections 97 and 98, that the government is simply synonymous to the â€Å"majority† who declare among themselves that certain laws and sanctions should be imposed on the whole body of citizenry. Jones saw this as an opportunity to advance her career therefore she took the elevator to the Governor’s suite. According to her statement, Jones claims that when she got to the suite, the Governor, Clinton at that time, continuously made increasingly aggressive moves on her. In her account, she claimed that the Governor forced her to do sexual things but, according to the security guard outside the suite, Jones looked happy when she got out of the Governor’s suite. The lawyers of Clinton asked the court to dismiss Jones claims in 1997 saying it would only disrupt his work at the white house but the supreme court ruled against the president and allowed the discovery of the case to continue that was in May 1997. The problem is that the theatre wants to develop a new ticketing system for the customers. This system can be a terminal located in the theatre, mobile application, or interactive device. The system needs to consider how information relating to events, seating plans is displayed. The reasons why we are undertaking this project because there are many problems we can fix as a team for example: If you make a payment many theatres make it difficult to cancel tickets so you dont get a refund on tickets. Language Barriers when displaying the interface site, Customers could make the mistake of choosing the wrong seats and the wrong night and the payment problems after the customer makes the booking on the tickets so their card might not have been accepted and requires to start the process over again and the aim is to make this system simplistic as possible for the end user. But The main problem that we are trying to address within this system is displaying the availability of seats for each performance within a time limit.   So, when the users are looking for tickets for a specific performance then there should be a time limit of 5 minutes for each person so they reserve those seats depending on how many tickets they are looking for because they will be more than one customer on the one server trying to get those tickets and seats for the specific night. The customer might change his/her mind and cancel those tickets for the performance so the other user can buy the available tickets. It will then display the seating plan and what seats are available on the night of the performance. Some customers may require disability assistance so the user can tick the checkbox and a line of text which will provide the best seating for this person and it will make sure that there will be someone seating beside this including with another person. This topic requires investigation because as a team we can fix the problem above and what were trying to address to make sure that the customer gets the best experience of the interface and can follow the process of fixing the problem of the current system.       2.1 PACT Analysis People With the booking system being available to everyone this means it should be as generic aspossible to ensure all users have an equal chance when using the system. All users will have different physical ability, computing knowledge etc. so this means that the system must cater for all. There will be a help page with a user guide so no matter what level users are at they will be able to navigate through the website with ease. The layout of the website will be simple and consistent to ensure a professional look which will again ensure easy navigation for the user. Activities With this application it should be effortless for users purchasing a ticket for a show andthere will be multiple ways in doing this, e.g. searching for a show by genre. The process in purchasing a ticket is very simple, first choose the show they would like to see, which ever date and time and then confirm the booking of the ticket(s). Once the ticket(s) have been booked then the user will be given a reference number which they will have to bring to the theatre with them. This reference number will be entered into a kiosk and their ticket(s) will be dispensed. Context The context in which a theatre customer is presented depends largely on the circumstances which the customer finds time to order theatre tickets for a specific performance. There may be non-English speaking people who wish to buy tickets. Therefore, we could have a language changing facility where a dropdown menu showing displaying a language text as well as a national flag to make selection more convenient. People who visit the website may be sight disabled, and many older people possess this disability, in this case a pan and zoom facility might be introduced. Technologies A webpage may be viewed on a variety of devices. These could be PC,laptop, internet TV, mobile device such as smartphones, etc.   we will have to make the webpage viewable for different sizes of screenwith input and output selectable and viewable by allocating ample space for controls and viewable images. We should also consider the constraints of the small space of a webpage presentation on a mobile device. User Stories John decided to booked a performance for les Miserables on the  Thursday 20th February 2017 and 19.45pm for two adults, two children and Johns  Mum who requires assistance. The total cost for the five tickets altogether costs  Ã‚ £109.50.   But the problem was that John would not make the show due to working  duties and he needs to change the date of the performance and doesnt want to cancel  the tickets. So, John rang the theatre box office and John asked if they could change  the date to the Friday the 21st of February at 20.00pm and they confirmed that it will  be the same price and same seats and they will be assistance required on the night  of the performance. Conceptual Scenarios Booking a theatrical performance- People which have the basic computing skills will be able to contact the theatre box office anytime via the internet by searching for the contact number and rectifying any changers that can be made and will be able to book tickets, choose a time and date. The John will receive confirmation of the performance. Concrete Scenarios a Booking a theatre performance John needs to change the date and time for the show which is next week. The date and time will need to be tomorrow around 7.30-8pm. John uses his PC and the internet at his work. He has no difficulty in checking his theatre booking system. 1. The problem I have is that I am unable to purchase anything online  because I dont have a credit/debit card. Everything I buy needs to be paid for with  cash. So, I was hoping there would be a system implemented that I could reserve a  ticket and then pay with cash whenever I get to the theatre. With me being at university  and, working part time I will have to find out the times of each show and what days  they are on and either book it off with work or try and fit in with my days off. Conceptual Scenario: Purchasing a ticket For a user looking to purchase a ticket then there are multiple options for doing so. These would be paying with credit card, PayPal as an option or if the user doesnt  choose paying by card then they have an option to reserve a ticket and then pay by  cash when they arrive at the theatre. Users can also search through different shows  for different dates and it will show what time these shoes commence at. Concrete Scenario:Michael needs to book two tickets for him and his girlfriend to see a show for her birthday. He does not own a debit/credit card so he is unable to book a ticket online. With his university commitments and him working part time he has no time to go to the theatre and sort it there. This means he will need to reserve a ticket and then pay for it with cash when he arrives. He then needs to check the website for all dates and times of each show to sort a show that he is free for. Interest in system: The existing system doesnt accommodate the purchase of snacks online. Persona: I have persona I have chosen is that of a family who wants to pre-buy the snacks for the cinema in order to get into the theatre faster and with less hassle. Currently it is not possible to pre-buy snacks or drinks online. The family wants to pre-purchase the snacks along with their tickets so they can get into the cinema without having to wait. Story: A family wants to pre-buy the snacks along with their cinema ticket. There are three children under the age of 6 in the family. The parents had a negative experience at the cinema before on a release of a major title. They found that it was difficult to wait in a long line with three kids and the whole process lasted over half an hour. By pre-purchasing the snacks, they wouldnt have to wait in the long line and instead go in without having to wait. Conceptual Scenario:The customer will have the option to pre-purchase a variety of different foods and drinks online. Only the most popular foods will be made available online in case there is an issue with their availability. The customer can pay for the snacks with a credit, debit card or PayPal. Once the ticket is ordered an email will be sent to the customer. The email will have a digital copy of the ticket with seat allocations and a unique key that will be useful later. Once the customer is at the cinema, they can avoid the regular line and go to the ticket machine where they have to enter the code they received in the email and print the ticket. Once the ticket is printed they can go ahead to the barrier and scan the ticket to access the theatre. Once the ticket is scanned staff working in the kiosk are prompted with the snacks they ordered and their seat allocations so it can be brought to them before the movie. Use Cases 2. Booking some performance/performances- When the customer has chosen their performance the customer can choose how many tickets that the customer wants and choosing the seat selection for the person/people for this performance on the specific data the customer has chosen. 4. Payment of performances- When the customer has chosen how many tickets he/she wants and picked the seats required, the customer can make the payment on tickets by a few payment options either credit/debit card, PayPal, or cash at the theatre. 5. Generate Tickets/Modify Tickets When the customer has completed the payment of the tickets the customer will getting a booking ID number and would say congratulations on buying your tickets and they will be delivered to you by the choice of the customer wants for example by email, by post or reserve and collect at the theatre. 6. Update Shows of Performance- The Theatre Manager is responsible for making sure that the shows will be updated and no old shows or shows that are over are displayed to the customer and will also show new shows coming soon to the theatre. 7. Generate Reports-   The Theatre Manager must make sure that the reports will be generated every few weeks about how many people are attending each show? what is the most popular night within the theatre for a show? How much money is incoming per show?
